She's running from her past, he's unsure about his future. Maybe together they can figure out what was MEANT TO BE.

Officer Garrett Jamison is at the lowest point in his life. He's lost faith in his ability as a police officer after unwittingly setting his sister up with a dirty cop. Garrett ended up getting shot, and his sister's son kidnapped right out of his own bed. He takes a leave from the force, in need of some time to make a decision about his future. Too bad he can't get a decent night's sleep thanks to his sexy new neighbor and her howling cat.

Jessica McGovern moves halfway across the country to start a new life in Green Bay, Wisconsin after her ex-husband is convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of their young son. Her new neighbor is as infuriating as he is handsome, but when her ex is released from prison early and shows up in town, Jessica discovers she's never needed anyone more.

Officer Garrett Jamison is in a rut. He can't decide where he is in life, where he wants the future to take him, or who he wants to spend it with. He's living at home with his brother and Uncle, without a family of his own, and the future is looking pretty darned bleak…Until his long-time neighbor's sexy niece takes up residence in the house next door while her uncle is off to see the world. Jessica McGovern is leaving behind a past laced with painful memories she'd rather forget. She's ready for a fresh start in a new place with friendly faces. It's too bad one of those faces belongs to her obnoxious neighbor, Garrett Jamison, the Jolly Mean Giant himself. It's a shame, too, because Garrett is as sinfully handsome as he is ill mannered.

Donna Marie Rogers has truly outdone herself with Meant To Be, a story that is as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking. This is the kind of book you crawl into bed with on a rainy night, with plenty of twists and turns along the way to keep you guessing and so much steamy chemistry between the protagonists you'll sport a silly grin on your face.

Garrett is exceptional in this, but then, I knew he would be. His prominence in the first installment, There's Only Been You, was only a small glimpse of what was to come. In Meant To Be, he's more than I ever could have imagined. As emotionally flawed as he is physically perfect, he's a man with a devilishly short hair trigger but a heart as large and vast as the sky. Jessica is endearing as a beautiful and sassy woman that can't let go of a bad marriage ended by tragedy. She continues to shoulder the blame following the death of her son, something she was in no way responsible for, which is the most devastating thing about her. How can you move forward and embrace the future when you can't let go of the past?

There is so much I want to say, and if I could, I would harp praise upon praise. The material is tightly written, well plotted and fast paced, and the characters are unforgettable. But I think Meant To Be is best entered into with the only the blurb provided as reference. I refuse to spoil this wonderful story by blabbing. It's so much better if you don't know, trust me. Meant To Be is a must read.

Sensuality rating: Very sensual

Jessica McGovern relocated to Green Bay, Wisconsin, after the arrest and conviction of her ex-husband in the death of their son. She and her ornery cat lived next door to a cop named Garrett Jamison. The cat kept Garrett awake and he stayed mad about it. Jessica and Garrett argued every time their paths crossed. That conflict quickly became chemistry. It seemed the entire Jamison family was more aware of the feelings between these two than the couple was themselves.

Jessica was a loner and kept her past buried. That was, until her ex-husband was released from prison early and decided to find his "wife." Meanwhile, Garrett had requested a leave of absence from the police force while he tried to put his life back together. This was because of circumstances which occurred in book one of the series. There's Only Been You told the story of Jamison sister Sara and her son, Ethan. Both were jeopardized by Garrett's actions on the Force. He loved them so much he wasn't sure he would be able to return to his job.

Donna Marie Rogers has once again captured her intended audience with her writing style. This second book in the "Jamison series" is well written with lots of drama and tension. I usually do not like suspenseful books but this one captured my attention from the beginning and never let up. Her characters were volatile as well as explosive. The supporting characters were well developed. The plot kept me spellbound throughout the entire book.

The sensuality of the couple was well written and the sex sizzled. However, the conflict soared. Misunderstanding abounded. There were absolutely no slow points in this storyline. Just when it would seem to calm down, another twist would emerge. Rogers has the ability to keep her readers on the edge of our seats. This one is definitely another page turner.

I highly recommend this book, as well as the first in the series, to anyone who likes action and romance with unique endings. I anticipate the third book in the series. The series will make my keeper list.

Do you love characters that are stubborn, honorable, sassy, and just plain lovable? Well, look no further. Jessica and Garrett will keep you on your toes and turning those pages. There are a few plot twists that I didn't quit expect but were entertaining and funny at times. There is an extra relationship which was a nice addition to the story. What touched me the most was watching Jessica and Garrett grow from their past mistakes. I highly recommend picking up this story for anyone who is a lover of romance. This is a story you can not go wrong by purchasing. I look forward to hearing more from this author in the future.

Officer Garrett Jamison and his family have been through a lot lately. Garrett is second guessing all his instincts at being a cop and decides that he needs to take a leave of absence from the force to get his head straight again. He's dealing with so much right now that the best thing for him to do is just take time off from the job. After setting his sister Sara up, unbeknownst to him, with a dirty cop, then ultimately getting shot, and let's not forget about having his nephew kidnapped right out from Ethan's bed, Garrett just needs to desperately get his life back into some semblance of normalcy. He plans on using this time away from his job to make some hard decisions about his future. But after meeting his family's new next door neighbor and her mangy cat, Garrett seems more distracted than ever.

Jessica McGovern and her cat, Mr. Louie, have moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin to start a new life. After living through losing her only child and her ex-husband being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of their young son, Marky, Jessica wants to start a new chapter in her life and put everything in order as best she can. Moving next door to her hunky neighbor, Garrett, just seems to add to the problems though because he's as arrogant and cocky as he is good looking. The last thing she needs right now is another man in her life. The last man, who happened to be her ex-husband, just turned everything upside down for her. So she makes a promise to herself that Garrett is only going to be her friend, nothing more.

Since the attraction between Garrett and Jessica runs deep on so many levels, can they truly just keep things on a friendship basis? Would it be so bad though if they wanted more out of life and saw each other as that person who would be able to fulfill their needs and desires? Could a relationship even work between them since they are both at crossroads in their lives?

Ms. Rogers did a wonderful job capturing the thoughts and feelings both Garrett and Jessica were going through. I felt as if I knew the both of them personally and I wanted them to find the happiness and contentment they were both searching for. I instantly fell in love with Garrett and felt bad that he was seriously having doubts with his ability at being an officer because of the serious issues that plagued him and his family not so long ago. I had hoped that his leave of absence would provide him the answers he was searching for and allow him to close that chapter of his life so he could make a fresh start. I fell in love with Jessica because she was this sweet girl that just had been dealt a really bad hand in life. She too needed to close the chapter of her past and look ahead to making a fresh start for her and Mr. Louie. Speaking of Mr. Louie, I just loved how comical that cat was throughout the story. Ms. Rogers did a wonderful job with this story overall and I would highly recommend it to others. I guarantee you'll walk away having a crush on Garrett, as I did, while reading the story. Nicely done!

Writers & Readers of Distinctive Fiction:

Jessica is trying to start a new life and she doesn't need her handsome, sexy neighbor, Garrett antagonizing her at work until she loses her temper and almost gets fired. Then, just as she is starting a steamy but shaky relationship with Garrett, her ex and his nasty, mean brother show up to threaten her and cause her trouble!

Garrett is suffering a dark moody depression because he feels he failed to protect his own family. He isn't sure if he wants to remain a cop or where his future might be. He sure wasn't thinking about getting into a new relationship until he starts to get close to his lovely and sexy neighbor! Of course they got off on the wrong foot and she just doesn't seem to trust him with details of her past. Now there is some other men hanging out in her house….and either he's been played for a pasty or something just isn't right!

I liked both of these characters in spite of, or maybe because of, their flaws! Jessica is too quick to allow her ex into her house even if he is injured. Garrett has a terribly quick and violent temper that he has a hard time keeping under control. Both characters have to grow beyond their past experiences to accept that they can love each other and be together as it was "meant to be!"

The relationship development was great fun, with lots of interruptions just when things were getting steamy! There are several bits of mystery with the secrets of Jessica's ex and his brother and a released convict that may be threatening Jessica because of Garrett. There is also a sweet secondary romance developing between Garrett's Uncle and a feisty neighbor.

I hadn't read the first book but this one stands alone fine - although I definitely want to go back and read the other! This story was quick paced and a wonderfully fun, entertaining read.
